Wings!

On a random whirlwind weekend trip to the Bay Area
recently (after an impromptu rendevous with some mint
humbugs and Rhubarb custards at Fiona's sweet shoppe)
my friend A and I stopped into a cute and uber trendy
little shop called Shotwell. I couldn't resist picking up a
few out-there pieces. I've been pondering this 2 finger ring
from Surface to Air for awhile now on the Oak site, but
after finally seeing one in person I had to finally make it
mine!


I also got this semi-insane winged harness thing by Zana
Bayne. Reactions so far have ranged from "Oh my god that
is so you, you have to buy it!" to "errr what exactly is that
and how do you wear it?" So, now I just have to find an
appropriate venue (what sort of event exactly is a winged
leather harness appropriate for?) and work up the courage
to actually wear it out of the house.

just adorable!

Strong shoulders

I've been obsessing over strong shoulders lately. In SF I tried on a great futuristic
dress with little wings of fabric on the shoulders from French Connection, but the
shoulders were a little narrow for my wide-ish frame. Then today I spied this strong
shouldered dress by Silence and Noise at Urban Outfitters. It's a bit over the top,
but I kind of love it. I may even wear it with my cage skirt to nudge it up a notch. I
think I may be regressing as I never really shopped at UO as a teenager, and am
probably approaching too old for it now!

Slouch

I quite like the look of these slouchy Suave pants from Vince, but
1.) I don't think I'm skinny enough to pull them off
2.) $225 for what are essentially sweat pants, srsly?!?

Tabi Shoes

Japanese tabi-shoes, an old fashioned look with an updated style by Sou Sou and inspiration for tabi shoes by Martin Margiela. I kind of want these... I kind of don't know why.... I think their very ugliness is part of their allure. A more english friendly shopping site to purchase these should you share my inexplicable attraction is here.

Temporary Tattoos

The New York Times had an interesting article today about the resurgence of
temporary tattoos, something that resonated with some ideas I've been having
lately. When I was younger I considered getting a tattoo, but decided against
it as I wasn't sure about how I would feel about it as I aged. Temporary tattoos
seem like the perfect alternative. You can display your personality, but aren't
tied into one design, allowing you to mix it up a bit depending on how you feel
from day to day.


I used to get temporary tattoos all the time as a kid at the fair and what not. I
remember the designs being pretty silly for the most part and the quality being
not so great. About 4 years ago I was nostalgically looking for them again, but
couldn't find much beyond the usual kids motifs or the hot topic type tat. Since
temporary tattoos are back in fashion maybe the selections have expanded
somewhat. Tinsley Transfers seems to do a lot of the tattoo work for movies.
They have a pretty cool selection of stick on tattoos like the vintage Peacock
above.


I also like some of the options from bodygraphics including this lion head.



These mirror image tattoos might look neat displayed with one on each of
your shoulder blades.



Some other temporary options include airbrushing or having an artist paint
the tattoo directly onto your skin though these are probably quite a bit more
expensive (Temptu New York).



Another maybe slightly crazy option are tattoo sleeves which you just slip on and
wear the way you would wear any sort of arm warmer.
