Attack of the Pom Pons!

omg is it weird that I keep seeing pom pons everywhere I look? maybe
they're stalking me? Marc Jacobs fall 2010 (left) calling out to DIYers

DIY project

What do you think, good diy project (fringed scarf by moclun)?
I think I could do something similar with a few old t-shirts, a
pair of scissors and some knotting skills... though my last stab
at a crafty project (gradient dyed tights) didn't turn out so well.
Maybe my second grade art teacher really was right when he
said "she's just not very good ..."

Rosettes

I've been looking for some fabric rosettes that I can dye in various colors
and attach to plain clothing items to up their cuteness quotient. I thought
about buying these beige organdy rosettes, but i'd like to see them in
person first and $6.50 per rosette seems a little steep especially if i have to
experiment a few times with the dying process to get it right.



This current obsession started sometime last year when I tried on a beautiful
gray silk dress with rosettes all around the collar, but it felt like a little too
much to have them wrapping all the way around the neckline. Besides, even
on someone as thin as Charlotte in Pushing Daisies the rosettes look great
from the front or back, but somehow aren't that flattering when viewed from
the side. So, I think I'll stick to attaching a few here or there as accents.



So, I'm thinking I'm in New York right, there there must be some good ribbon
stores in the city. Upon a mini search of the internet I stumble upon Mokuba,
New York. Wow, just wow! 3500 square feet dedicated solely to ribbon with
43,000 different kinds of ribbon and trim! That is one store I definitely have to
check out. Unbelievable!

With all the fun painterly patterns around these days
I may just have to take up the brush and get working
on a little do it myself project. Else, just buy this super
cute dress from 12th Street by Cynthia Vincent, on sale
for $107.90.

DIY project - skeleton key necklace

The other day while browsing through Candystore, a fun boutique in the
Mission, I saw the cutest necklaces from Ann Marie jewelry. There were
a variety of skeleton keys cast in sterling silver hanging on delicate silver
and gold chains. But, since I so rarely wear jewelry I couldn't really justify
the $130+ price tags.




I also figured that this might be a project that I could do myself... So, I've been
browsing eBay for old skeleton keys. There seem to be a wide variety if you just
do a search for "skeleton key". I'm hoping to find something about 3 inches long
in silver, but there are also lots of cheap and interesting looking options in brass,
steel, or iron. My favorite so far is the first picture of an antique steel key from
Sargent & Co, 1888.
