Boot Substitute

The boots I want (Fendi Mountain Lace-up Boot, Burberry Prosum ankle boots).

The boots I can afford (Newport News lace-up boot, Forever21 Trooper boot). But
I'm just not a fan of the non-leather boot no matter how cute.

Two leather options in the almost affordable range (Topshop power lace-up boot, and
Seychelles Cheerio).

Grab your batchel

I think these leather school-kid satchels and batchels
(apparently satchel + top handle = batchel) would make
super cute handbags especially in the 11" size. Plus you
can get them embossed with your initials or favorite
phrase. Christmas wishlist anyone?

Jazz up your lbd

What a cute way to add some umph and sparkle to an ordinary lbd (Deena & Ozzy Disc Belt).

To Faux or Not to Faux?

What say you to the faux-fur trend?

Perhaps you'd like to discover where the wild things are (wolf pelt jacket from target,
and just fur fun vest from modcloth)?

But, if I were to try this trend I think I would go with a more classic vintage look such as one
of these faux-fur swing coats in faux mink and faux leopard.

ModCloth Finds

I've never shopped at ModCloth before, but they seem to have a great selection of
new, but vintage style clothing at moderate prices. Here are some of my favorites:

My love of coats, especially gray coats may be unbounded. This capelet coat nicely
reflects my subconscious desire to one day be a modern day Sherlock Holmes (my good
friend A and I have long been plotting to open a book store/become little old ladies who
solve murder mysteries a la Miss Marple). And, this Newbury Street Jacket is just too
princessy to resist.

Both of these pieces embody the we're too cool because we have removed part of the
garment movement. Actually I really really love the style of this blue smoke dress
and at $65 it seems like quite a steal. These Von Iva boots with a strappy back are
also pretty fun.

The one shoulder trend has been here for awhile now and I've been slowly warming
to it (although really, what sort of bra do you wear with that?). I recently saw Carol
Hannah from Project Runway sporting this one shouldered top that looks quite nice
as it flows back and forth over your arm, revealing and removing dependent on your
motion.

Origami Shoes

Can you fold me some of these paper shoes please?

Boots of my dreams?

I have been looking for a great pair of knee-high brown boots with a
reasonable heel for quite a long time now. I now own two flat pairs: one
mid-calf height biker boot in black, and a knee-high pair in brown, but I
haven't had a heeled pair since a serious boot-mergency several years ago
(think zipper disaster ultimately resulting in ripping the offending boot
from my leg). I have resisted going the J.Crew route because they are a bit
pricey, but my "athletic" calves unfortunately kind of limit my options. So,
their extended calf sizes make them quite tempting. I really like these
Nottingham tall leather high-heel boots. What do you think Cognac or
Pony?

Looking for ...

A great grey leather jacket.

Biker style: Timberland, Lucky Brand.

Bomber: Doma, Diesel.

Slightly more refined: What comes around goes around, Frenchi.

Come fly with me

Come fly with me, let's fly, let's fly away
If you can use some exotic booze
There's a bar in far Bombay
Come fly with me, let's fly, let's fly away

Come fly with me, let's float down to Peru
In llama land there's a one-man band
And he'll toot his flute for you
Come fly with me, let's take off in the blue

... Feathered collar from TopShop.

Style cousins?

Jeffrey Campbell City over the Knee flat boots.

Chloe Flat over-the-knee boots.

Though both bear a striking resemblance to *those* Rodarte boots.

How to make a stabment!

Now that's a strong shoulder!

Strong shoulders

I've been obsessing over strong shoulders lately. In SF I tried on a great futuristic
dress with little wings of fabric on the shoulders from French Connection, but the
shoulders were a little narrow for my wide-ish frame. Then today I spied this strong
shouldered dress by Silence and Noise at Urban Outfitters. It's a bit over the top,
but I kind of love it. I may even wear it with my cage skirt to nudge it up a notch. I
think I may be regressing as I never really shopped at UO as a teenager, and am
probably approaching too old for it now!

SF shopping

I made a quick weekend trip to SF a few weeks ago and had a blast eating good food -- dim sum at Yank Sing and the Hong Kong Flower Lounge, Indian chaat at Vik's Distributing (omg so good!), yummy inside out burger at Spork, croissants at Masses, cheese at the Cheeseboard collective, and drinks in the "deathstar" bar at the top of the Marriott at sunset with a gorgeous view of the whole city as it faded into dark. I also got to see a lot of good friends that I've been missing since I left the Bay Area (you know who you are). And of course what trip to SF would be complete without some shopping in Union Square. I picked up a few things including this awesome blown glass bubble necklace from SFMOMA which has already been approved by my "artsy" friends, but which seems a bit like a neck stabbing accident waiting to happen. :) This panda hat was calling to me from a random street vendor and I couldn't resist. I also picked up this Chloe-esque top by Rachel Roy and an Oakland t-shirt featuring the crane inspirations for George Lucas' AT-AT walkers.
