Outfit of the night

Saturday my husband took me out for a birthday dinner at the Zuni Cafe. We've been to Zuni several times and have never been disappointed. This time the food was absolute perfection!

Our menu:
Lightly breaded piccolo fritto of cardoons (similar to an artichoke) and tiny sweet onions
Polenta with mascarpone cheese and peppercorns
Halibut with spring onions, carrots and peas in a butter sauce. The fish was light and flaky and the butter sauce was rich and seasoned just right. The halibut was deliscious and not fishy tasting in the slightest. Fish is one thing I would really like to master in my cooking. I can never time it right and it always comes out either undercooked or overcooked and rubbery.
Beef cooked extremely rare, coated in pepper and served with fingerling potatoes, some sort of greens (kale?) and onions
Shoestring potatoes.

My husband's outfit:
Hugo Boss suit
Shirt by Thomas Pink
Shoes from Kenneth Cole

My outfit:
DKNY dress - one thing an empire waist is good for is eating a big yummy meal.
J Crew cardigan
Assets stockings
Marc by Marc Jacobs shoes (I'm not great at walking in heels, but these are definitely the MOST comfortable heels I own, and even held up to several hours of walking in Paris)
Purse by Sonia Rykiel

Outfit of the day

I know peasant skirts are out, but I decided to channel a little Berkeley hippie chic yesterday. Mmm mmm mmm iced coffee on a warm day. The best!

Saturday's outfit:
Shirt - Threadless - teddy bear + octopi = crazy cute.
Skirt - Express
Flip flops - Reefs
Bag - unknown

Bargain Find!

I wandered into the Goodwill in Berkeley the other day and found this fun coat for ....

wait for it....

wait for it...

$9.99! Score! It's a teeny bit large on me and I'm not completely sure how I feel about fur. I mean on the one hand I eat meat and wear leather and the coat is vintage from a charity shop so it's not like they killed the animal just for me, but on the other hand I dunno, fur? But, for $9.99 I decided to risk it. I can always sell it on eBay if I never end up wearing it. I think it's probably wool, with maybe a little cashmere and the collar looks like fox (?).

Oh and p.s. the Goodwill store is having an apparel sale tomorrow (Saturday). All apparel is 50% off.

The coat doesn't have a designer tag, but it does have this fun ILGWU label (International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union). This informational eBay Guide seems to place it somewhere between 1963-1974.

Cat? Where are you cat?

Blair channeling a little Audrey Hepburn in one of my favorite movies, Breakfast at
Tiffany's. The girls and their gossip returned this week with some fun outfits.

Ever elegant and a beautiful inspiration, Audrey Hepburn, snaps from the last scene of the movie. I have a cat who looks just like this one, except mine has a name.

Discarded to Divine

This Saturday the Discarded to Divine auction is taking place where "donated
clothes are
transformed into one-of-a-kind couture creations auctioned to help
the poor and homeless". I already have birthday plans that evening (Zuni Cafe
Yum!) with my husband, otherwise I would totally be there.

Tax Day

"Let me tell you how it will be
There's one for you, nineteen for me

Cause I'm the tax man
Yea I'm the tax man
Should five percent appear too small
Be thankful I don't take it all

Cause I'm the tax man
Yea I'm the tax man

If you drive a car-car I'll tax the street
If you try to sit-sit I'll tax your seat
If you get too cold I'll tax the heat
If you take a walk I'll tax your feet
Tax man"

-Tax man by the Beatles

I don't know about you, but I had to write a gigantic check to the tax man
today. :( So, here are a few cute accessories from the Vera Wang for Kohl's
collection that won't break the bank... Now on sale!

Headbands:

Twisted triple wire headband, bead headband, patent-leather headwrap,
and flat-wire headband.

I desperately need a pair of sunglasses for the approaching summer! I'm not
willing to pay an arm and a leg for sunglasses only to sit on them, lose them,
or damage them in some other way which I just know I'll do within at most a
month of purchasing. These sunglasses from the Simply Vera collection look
like they might be perfect! Oversized square sunglasses, oversized sunglasses,
retro oval sunglasses, and thin oval sunglasses. Now I just have to figure out
where the nearest Kohls is...

New Dresses

I popped into the city for a few hours on Saturday to return a few things and
ended up buying two fabulous DKNY dresses that were deeply discounted. I
don't normally like baby-doll dresses, but Donna Karen has a way with cutting
things perfectly, and the heavy silk helps to give it quite a cute shape. This one
was $85 down from $295! Worn with my favorite Kate Spade shoes.

This one has a neat ombre coloring and both dresses feature something I love,
pockets! $110 from $345. Worn with Banana Republic open toed heels.

Outfit of the day

Monday's child is fair of face.

Tuesday's child is full of grace.

Wednesday's child is full of woe.

Thursday's child has far to go.

Friday's child is loving and giving.

Saturday's child works hard for a living,

But the child who is born on the Sabbath Day

Is bonny and blithe and good and gay.
I was a Sunday child, but remember always wanting to be a Tuesday...
Now I'm not sure why. Sunday sounds pretty good to me. Sucks to be
born on a Wednesday or a Thursday though!

The day of the week tends to influence my outfit choices. Mondays
are usually boring jeans and a t-shirt, but as the weekend approaches
I tend to dress with more care and pull out the fun outfits.
Tuesday's outfit:
Dress - American Eagle - I was saving this dress for a warm day, but
couldn't wait any longer.
Tank top - Old Navy
Jacket - Gap
Flip flops - Reef
